For Ben, IV, et al.
I have not flown internationally for about 15 years---a life time in technology.
We came home yesterday on a Boeing 787---which I knew more about from a pilots perspective than a passenger's. Our SIL was flying the 787 as a second officer but about 6 months ago moved back to the 757 and up to captain. He has a very high opinion of the 787---and one trip made me a fan. I started on the wide bodies in the early 70's with the first being the L-1011, then DC-10 and 747, with the 747 my all time favorite.
I will leave the seat out of this since that is airline specific and just focus on the aircraft.
It is quiet, very little engine noise.
We flew at 40,000 to 41,000 feet. (JAL used to fly the 747 at those heights but most airlines stayed around 36,000.
Air speed was 550 to 570 mph.
Cabin pressure control was excellent.
We took a "flatter" route across the Atlantic but that might have been due to head winds---I never saw a head wind reach 50 mph, which is unusual.
The 747 just might have to move over
