    For Ben, IV, et al.

I have not flown internationally for about 15 years---a life time in technology.

We came home yesterday on a Boeing 787---which I knew more about from a pilots perspective than a passenger's. Our SIL was flying the 787 as a second officer but about 6 months ago moved back to the 757 and up to captain. He has a very high opinion of the 787---and one trip made me a fan. I started on the wide bodies in the early 70's with the first being the L-1011, then DC-10 and 747, with the 747 my all time favorite.

I will leave the seat out of this since that is airline specific and just focus on the aircraft.

It is quiet, very little engine noise.
We flew at 40,000 to 41,000 feet. (JAL used to fly the 747 at those heights but most airlines stayed around 36,000.
Air speed was 550 to 570 mph.
    Cabin pressure control was excellent.
We took a "flatter" route across the Atlantic but that might have been due to head winds---I never saw a head wind reach 50 mph, which is unusual.

The 747 just might have to move over

I can't recall the last aircraft I flew in, probably a Boeing of some kind on a round trip to the SHOT Show in Las Vegas...But I do recall three crossings of the Atlantic in Douglas stretch-8's chartered from Trans Caribbean Airlines, likely the most uncomfortable flights in history...I enjoyed the flight from Holloman AFB in Arizona to Spangdahlem AB in West Germany on a C-141 much more...The current crop of airliners I have zero experience with......Ben

I know commercial airplanes are not your cup of tea but I thought you might be interested in the comparisons.
I made a mistake in the original, my last International flight was in 2019.
The rest of the planes on this trip were all Airbus A320s---no excitement there.

Trans Caribbean Airlines was owned by O. Roy Chalk.. owner of DC Transit, buses and street cars before Metro ..

Cabin pressurization capabilities most often limit altitude..
