I saw him play at the first MLB game I ever attended. Giants VS Dodgers at Dodger Stadium

Mays, McCovey, Bobby Bonds, and Juan Marischal vs Drysdale and the Dodgers. We sat right behind the Giants Dugout. I remember some girls on the second deck above us yelling "Throw us a ball Willie" and then Mays and McCovey looked at each other, grinned, then each picked up a ball then heaved them up to the girls. so awesome. Giants beat the Dodgers that day

Wifey and I said the same thing to each other when we heard he died, "I thought he was dead years ago."

Aged to a ripe old 93 years - which is an outstanding achievement in itself. His 23 seasons of play are part of a historic American baseball history.

I hope you'll soon be playing ball again with your friends who preceded you, Willie.
