I'd be surprised if he lives long enough to do his prison sentence:

I could see where a person saddling the fence of life & death could say, "To hell with everyone else, I'm gonna rob bands. If I succeed - I'll be richer. If I fail, they'll put me in in a medical ward at the prison."
