That sent me off down memory lane.
How I have changed---I was once a member of the John Birch Society (after the Army). But---when I went into the Army I did not have a SS number. I didn't believe in the whole idea of SS and the few jobs I had before going into the Army were under the table---so no problem. When I went in the Army they had a problem with that Keep in mind I was all of 17 at the time. Back to the Army: they told me I HAD to have a SS number---but I still didn't have the Army thing worked out and I said I didn't want one because I didn't believe in SS. The guy doing the talking was very calm----he said----Okay--then we will just keep taking out the money and send it to Washington with all the rest and you will not get any credit for it. Now I might have been young and dumb---but I quickly decided that was not going to be a beneficial move on my part----so---I gots me a number right then and there!
