Ms Krauss--from an Eastern perspective

There are some things you Texas boys do that are OK---like your cookin is pretty much OK---ya got some good white tails---but some of you talk a little funny and dem pointy little booties you all wear are just downright silly lookin---but when some of ya talk--I listen

So--I got drawn in on the Alison Krauss discussion and having both a rather eclectic taste in music--and a curiosity for new horizons---I ordered "A Hundred Miles or More"

It was here (along with the Wallin Jennys CD I didn't have and another Keiko Matsui CD) when we got home from the cottage last night.

Today we went to MD to our Granddaughters 3rd birthday --and I took the new CDs. My wife who normally does not share the full range of my music affliction listened to the beginning of Alison Krauss and asked it this was a new Joan Baez--no--this is the darlin of the Texas crowd on the CB

Now--I do have to tell you that my wife who went to school in Dallas claims the worst part of the experience was not being able to find decent music on the radio

We both very much enjoyed "Down by the River"---I wondered a little about "Whiskey Lullaby"---my wife offered an opinion

However--I suspect this is only the first of my Alison Krauss CDs--and yes she does remind me a little of Joan Baez--all in all---very nice

One must not be from Texas to know about the secret. We would listen to ali while in the truck, our nine year old, then three year old would ask us, when we go to the grand old oprie will ali be there? We would say we don't know who will be there as we won't know which night we will be there. Lo and behold we get there and who is on stage. So neat seeing your three and one year old dancing in the aisle of the Grand Old Oprie.

Thanks for that link Fred. There is also a number of videos on You Tube---while I value the opinion of most of our friends in Texas---being cheap I had to check this out before spending the big bucks

Alison Krauss + Robert Plant = ought to be strange, till ya hear it and then you'll like it.

My favorite album of hers is "Forget About It." I have seen it written that she has a deal with her band, Union Station, that they will record one album of music the band primarily chooses, and then one album of music Ali primarily chooses. The band's music is basically blue grass material, while Krauss' often tends to be more of a contemporary vein. "Forget About It" is an Ali album.

"Down By The River" was a song she performed for the movie, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, which featured several other songs performed by members of Union Station. A Capella songs like that one tend to seperate the wheat from the chaff. Damned good movie, BTW. Interestingly, she was viewed as a child protegy on the fiddle long before it was discovered that she could sing. Her dobro player is widely considered to be a virtuoso of that marvelous instrument.

If you have a chance to see her perform live or catch her live performance on her DVD, you will see what a delightful, funny and engaging personality she possesses.

I find Alison Krauss captivating.
