Ok, here's one my old favorites, Grandma's Hands, first by the writer, the great Bill Withers.

Next, listen to a modern version by Tom Thumb. I don't have a clue how he does some of the things he does and I can't say I think it approaches the original, but it is interesting.

I got an email from Alison today.

Yes, it has to be from her personally because the sender's name is Alison Krauss!

Don't even try to make me think it could be a form mail, I know it came from her.

Anyhow, she is releasing a new album on February 17 and she wanted me to let y'all know. You can pre-order HERE.

I have been searching the web for months trying to find out what has happened to Ali and why we aren't getting new material from her. Rumor was that she had serious throat problems - even that she was close to retiring. That would be beyond terrible. I had looked on her website just days ago with no word about the new album. There were a few - damned few for such a prolific artist - past dates on multiple artist type appearances in the last few months and no future dates listed.

This news is heartening. I'll be there 2/17. I hope the rumors are nothing more than that. Alison Krauss is a treasure.

If I haven't posted this one before, I apologize. If I have, then it will save the search. This is a keeper —

I'm a mess at the moment

I have a lot of Eric Clapton music, including "River of Tears", but when I went to that link Joe and listened to it on YouTube I was drawn by one on the margin which I went to, it is a song by Clapton and he is performing with Pavarotti in his home town of Modena.

Please take the time to both listen and see the joy in Pavarotti's face.

I understand that non-Catholics will not have the same reaction as this convert had but here are the lyrics of this piece written by Clapton and Steven Bishop:

    Holy Mother, where are you?
Tonight I feel broken in two.
I've seen the stars fall from the sky.
Holy mother, can't keep from crying.

Oh I need your help this time,
Get me through this lonely night.
Tell me please which way to turn
    To find myself again.

    Holy mother, hear my prayer,
Somehow I know you're still there.
    Send me please some peace of mind;
    Take away this pain.

    I can't wait, I can't wait, I can't wait any longer.
    I can't wait, I can't wait, I can't wait for you.

    Holy mother, hear my cry,
I've cursed your name a thousand times.
    I've felt the anger running through my soul;
All I need is a hand to hold.

Oh I feel the end has come,
No longer my legs will run.
You know I would rather be
    In your arms tonight.

When my hands no longer play,
My voice is still, I fade away.
    Holy mother, then I'll be
Lying in, safe within your arms.

I realize now that they preformed this together on more than this occasion. I can only imagine the pride that Clapton had to have to be able to preform this with Pavarotti in his home town.

Joe---thank you for bringing me to this.

This is truly a great thread.

For anyone with Amazon Prime, this is available as a free download. Be assured it is now in my library

I'm sure that anyone who knows Eric Clapton's song "Tears in Heaven" know it was written by Clapton after his son Conner's death in a terrible accident when he fell out of an open window. If you are interested in learning more about that tragic event you can find it here.

And for some serious good guitar playing from Clapton with BB King try this

The videos suggested by iTunes are specific to the user based upon some algorithm and past history of the user. What was suggested to you was not suggested to me, thus Holy Mother was not offered to me before. This was the first I heard the song. Clearly, Pavarotti enjoyed the experience. Two masters.

The song "Holy Mother" brings images to my mind of the Pieta by Michelangelo which is in St. Peters Basilica. It is the most gripping statue I have ever seen, it seems to bring life from stone.

I remember staring at that for quite a while when I was there...It was before the restoration, and I'd like to see it now in person......Ben

I had the same feeling of wonder when in its presence how someone could envision and carve that from stone.
There are several of competing wonder in the Galleria Borghese in Rome as well.

I'm going to keep an eye on this new artist. I think she could develop into a great talent. She's already pretty good at only 17 years of age:
