Dave, living where you do, I'm sure you are familiar with Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians. I was fortunate enough to see them three times in three different venues somewhere around 1970. That was a hell of a show. (yes, I know he invented the Waring blender!)

He was a favorite of my parents and every Sunday evening after the barn work was done and we had our dinner it would be about the 8 o'clock hour and Fred Waring would come on---at first on the radio and then latter on the TV.

Did you ever get to see them live? At the time I saw them, it was by far the biggest show I had ever seen. This country boy thought New York had come to town!

No sir. That was far beyond our scope. We were pretty much limited to maybe a movie a year and an occasional tent revival.
When you work 14 hours a day 7 days a week there isn't much "disposable" time for outside entertainment. We took off only the Sunday night milking every other week. On those Sundays we would do the morning milking, cleanup, have breakfast and when weather permitted we would go for a ride on our horses until dark or dinner time. The hiredmen would do the evening milking.

Wow, I hope that is behind her. I had never heard about this condition so I read about it on Wikipedia but not sure that made me any more knowledgeable. Seems to be most common in teachers and singers.

Thanks, Mike, I have looked several times to fill in the rumors Ali was having throat troubles to explain her highly lamented absence from the scene. Could not find confirmation. We lost July Andrews' singing gifts to something similar. Linda Ronstadt too perhaps.

You could derail my day with that stuff. I find Dolly Parton to be an extremely talented lady who has a wonderful voice and has written some really memorable songs (ie Coat of Many Colors and Apple Jack) plus gifted with an astounding anatomical monument---how good can it get
