I was lucky enough to see Bob Hope twice, in 63 and 64. Two fond memories of my Army service.

I never thought anyone could do it better than John Prine & Iris DeMent but this cover by Steve McLain and Michaela Terrien McLain really was a hit with me. It kinda describes my wonderful marriage the last 38 years.

I enjoy listening to Benh Zeitlin and Dan Romer's performance of "Once There Was a Hushpuppy" the theme song of Beast of the Southern Wilds, one of my more favorite movies.

I'm working a a new Google project today at home, which gives me an opportunity to listen to music as I work. The problem is that on occasion I can self sabotage my work---as I have this afternoon.

I love street music and musicians. I increasingly want to invite them to have a cup of coffee and try to find out how they got to were they are---really to find out who they are. Some are incredible--and homeless--why I wonder Obviously, they play for a different conductor than me. There is no condemnation in that comment, I am grateful, they help enrich my life

A sample--and you can get lost here if like me.

    ...and how cool is this?

My grandfather was a side man for Slam Stewart in the late 40s for a couple of tours. He played flute, clarinet and tenor sax. I grew up on jazz/dance band music. It is cool to see Youtube preserving this era.

Being a drunk, practicing drunk for 25 or 30 years I met so many beautiful people, so many talented people. I, like most of them did the treatment circuit and we actually cared for each other, when sober or drunk. All have helped each other above and beyond more than once. It's amazing the change that can occur from just not drinking. The majority of alcoholics are......different than normal sober people. I can't explain it and I can't explain why we need the crutch, why we need to escape or if it has anything to do with either of those things If we weren't drunks there would probably be quite a few more studies on us. We call ourselves drunks but above when I say drunks I mean alcoholics, and yes there is a huge difference. And I can't say if the fellow in the video is a drunk but he is a good example so to speak of whom I speak.
This is your mind on drugs!

Somewhere I missed that among his other accomplishments Leonard Bernstein was a world class pianist as well. Here he is both conducting and featured pianist in George Gershwin’s masterpiece, “Rhapsody In Blue” —

Leonard Bernstein (/ˈbɜːrnstaɪn/ BURN-styne;[1] August 25, 1918 – October 14, 1990) was an American composer, conductor, author, music lecturer, and pianist. He was among the first conductors born and educated in the US to receive worldwide acclaim. According to music critic Donal Henahan, he was "one of the most prodigiously talented and successful musicians in American history."[2]

    More from Wikipedia:
His fame derived from his long tenure as the music director of the New York Philharmonic, from his conducting of concerts with most of the world's leading orchestras, and from his music for West Side Story, Peter Pan,[3] Candide, Wonderful Town, On the Town, On the Waterfront, his Mass, and a range of other compositions, including three symphonies and many shorter chamber and solo works.

Bernstein was the first conductor to give a series of television lectures on classical music, starting in 1954 and continuing until his death. He was a skilled pianist,[4] often conducting piano concertos from the keyboard.

As a composer he wrote in many styles encompassing symphonic and orchestral music, ballet, film and theater music, choral works, opera, chamber music and pieces for the piano. Many of his works are regularly performed around the world, although none has matched the tremendous popular and critical success of West Side Story.
He was also a graduate of Harvard and the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia.

He was the kind of over achiever that keeps me humble.
