OK I first heard this version on Northern Exposure and had to hunt it down. It is one of my all time favorites. There are different versions but this one is my favorite. Thanks for the Dolly version of her song and the preface, which explained it was written to seal the professional split with Porter Wagner. I never heard that explanation before. I heard this song so often in supermarkets in the Whitney Houston version singing it with her characteristic Barry Manilow big finish wailing, I thought I would never enjoy it again.

Dimash Kurdaibergen known merely as “Dimash,” is a young man from Kazakhstan who has burst on our scene unexpectedly. He is billed as the Man of Six Octaves, but he has more than that incredible range of his instrument to his singing talents. You may have seen him on a TV show this last season The World’s Best, which is where I was introduced to him. Sadly, he sings only a few songs in English...yet, but I’ll bet you can see why he is making a splash anyway.

All great but I have to admit a bias in the cello for Yo-Yo Ma. Hauser might be his equal on the cello but Yo-Yo Ma gets my vote for no reason other than he looks like he is having a good time and I love that--it's contagious
I had not previously "met" Dimash---or his better half (sister)---excellent. I suspect there will be much more seen of them.
I'll add an offering of my own----I love chamber concerts, they seldom include "bold statements" and I find it supremely relaxing.

Missed it, totally. His sister seems to have a very nice voice also, but in the piece you offered, she was blasted into insignificance by her brother’s pyrotechnics, which get in the way of any musicality. Enough of that, we need to hear real singing from this guy now that everyone knows of his phenomenal instrument.
