    I had not heard Boney James before. He is as smooth as the "Butter" in the tune you posted, Dave. Thanks for the intro...reminds me a bit of the late Grover Washington, Jr., and that's high praise.

    It took me decades to learn to appreciate the saxophone after being attacked in my early years by a steady diet of the atrocious Boots Randolph's Yackety Sax and the like...aaarrrggghhh! I finally got out of that hang-up attending numerous local gigs in Houston of a sax player there named Kirk Whalum. Like you, being there enhances the musical experience so much with any muscian, but jazz especially for me. I especially love me lots of soprano sax. That instrument can be so plaintive, almost in between a clarinet and an oboe.

    Here's a great sax player you might like. Not quite as smooth as Boney, but not too jazzy in this tune like Ornette Coleman or "The Bird," neither of which I understand. Wayne Shorter, Apache —

    Very nice---and I have the same feelings about the soprano sax

    Here is another for you. I have to confess--I saw Joe sample in concert at least twice, I have some of his CD's and until I just went to youtube I didn't realize his race

    Joe Sample is another new artist to me. Fine piano. In listening to some of his other YouTube postings, I particularly liked "Street Life" with female singer Randy Crawford with whom I was also unfamliar. Excellent —

    I was lucky enough to enjoy one of his concerts with Ms Crawford as well--- she is really first rate. Her voice can transport you to a smoky cabaret when you are sitting in a concert hall

    I especially want to share this work. This is a compilation by Yo-Yo Ma on cello and the composer, John Williams on piano, playing three selections from the music to the film Memoirs Of A Giesha, a beautiful movie, but enhanced greatly by the score. When I saw the film, I was enchanted by the visual, but it was the music that thrilled me. Still does. This compliation I have only found on YouTube and is just audio, but what an audio. The middle section is the piece called "A Dream Discarded" @4:04-6:48. The mastery of Yo-Yo Ma is exquisit! The movie soundtrack album, which I have enjoyed these many years has a suburb rendition of A Dream Discarded, but this one is even better, I think...slower...more evocative, as if such a thing possible.

    As a curiosity, you might play from the side bar the 1962 video of Leonard Bernstein introducing the seven year-old prodigy, Yo-Yo Ma, playing for President Kennedy. The promise was realized...

    Ran across this and it has three of my favorite things in one piece — Alison Krauss, Yo-Yo Ma and Christmas music. Ok, I know it's not the right time for Christmas music but it is always the right time for the angelic voice of Ali, plus, there are bagpipes and tiny, tiny cymbals too!

    I heard we are not getting new Krauss stuff because she has throat problems. That is a serious issue for us Ali fans. I keep looking though.

    BTW, tell me you are not listening to this thread on crappy computer speakers, please tell me you are not...

    To bring it together, I am reminded of the bit when Steve Martin played his banjo on one of the late night shows and sat down for the banter afterwards. The host (don't remember who) remarked, "That was great, Steve, do you play any other instruments?" To which Martin replied, "Would you ask Yo-Yo Ma if he played anything besides the cello?"

    I tried to find a good one with Roy doing malaguena on a 12 string but fell short. They had some but were pieces.
