The British take a back seat to no one in any discussion of ugly vehicles, but they exceed in ugly truck design...Their heavy haul industry grew on the backs of de-militarized Scammell army transports after WWII, and blossomed with Leyland and European competitors such as DAF and MAN entering the market...Among my favorites are the ERF trucks, especially the twin-steers...

Speaking of The Highwayman, one of the trucks used on the show was developed from the Steinwinter bus concept...(This site is weird in that you have to use the side menu to navigate to the pics)...

On the subject of Hollywood trucks, was there ever a more menacing Peterbilt than the 1955 Model 281 that chased Dennis Weaver's Plymouth Valiant across the desert in "Duel"?...The surviving truck below is actually a 1960 model...

Terrific movie which jump-started Spielberg's career. The viewer never sees the truck's driver, which focused the evil on the truck.

From another movie, here's an Aussie version of the Rubber Duck's R700 Mack from "Convoy"...I think I like this one better than the movie star truck...

Another ugly black Mack was the wrecker that made the mistake of chasing the Terminator...(You can skip right to 3:30 for the chase)...

Back in the day, when I defended companies in tort lawsuits, I spotted an 18-wheeler that looked about like the one in #22 above, huge black and nasty, with skull & cross-bones painted on it and in big letters on the side, "Widow Maker." I was praying I never had to defend the driver when he was involved in a deadly wreck.

"Foden" Never heard that name before. For the times that was a heck of a truck, interesting video.

Edwin Richard Foden was the Brit who gave his initials to the ERF...Tough little trucks suited for the Anglo/European roads......Ben

Another homely British child, Scammell, doesn't seem to take a back seat to anyone in towing power...Here's an ex-military version towing 18 other ugly trucks like an ugly mother duck leading her ugly ducklings across the lawn...

I thought I'd add one more, although the YouTube description is typically exaggerated...

Nicolas Tractomas actually does hold the Guinness record for world's largest road tractor, but it's for the 2005 model pictured below......Ben
