Yea a lot of work to put a door in there now that you've already got it cased. Still could be done but like you said earlier, you need to keep that title. The whole thing is sweet I'm glad you are getting to live it.

This is your mind on drugs!
You know that's almost to nice to call it a cabin.

Thanks. Joe might have been hinting at that as well. We figured this was the one and only time we would build one. It wasnt too bad because its small so theres only a coulple of sinks, less plumbing etc. Its still not very practical unless you have snowmobiles and i dont anymore. But there are a few October afternoons every year that make up for it.
Theres a lake nearby (reservoir). Last summer they used all the water putting out fires so the drained the lake to fix the outlet. The trout were going to die so they dropped the limits and said go get em (still need to use a rod though). Heres yours truly with a couple hours fishing. Rainbows and a few cutthroats. We got so much snow this year the lake will fill back up and the fishong will be good again in a year or two.

I guess im going to have to rent a snowmobile if im going to get back up there this summer?
This is crazy. We still have more snowpack than our peak historical average - and its been snowing again here the last 2 days! The red lines are avg and median since i cut the legend off

The source data. The closest station to the cabin is Lone Cone with 12.3 inches of snow water equivalent still. Is it right that the rule of thunb is 10" snow = 1" water. Although the snow will have settled and is almost ice by now that is still a lot of water to come out of the mountains. Look at Wolf Creek!
Im conflicted- I think hiring a municipal dog catcher is the slippery slope to socialism but snotell sites are essential governmental functions

Those are pretty impressive numbers for this year and hold some promise for the down stream reservoirs.

Here's thru yesterday, should be the peak. The 169% is snowpack and the 127 is precip ytd, the most this late in the year in a long time. We were burning up here last summer. *
The northern part of the state is closer to nornal and thats where most of the water comes from so the reservoirs might get some help but probably not enough. The levels in Lake Mead are crisis level.
* I attach another pic for your amusement and it comes along with a question. Are any of you weather underground stations? I had no interest until i saw this genious hack theirs during the "416 fire" north of Durango.
I sometimes wonder when i pee in the creek if my essence makes it all the way to LA?

Another couple of feet for the high country. Most of the upstream reseervoirs are full, the endangered fish have their allocation, the rafters get a recreational run down the Dolores, and the Albuquerque news predicted a summer with low forest fire risk for the first time in history.
Brace yourselves boys, these next couple of storms look like they have some moisture.

Cant get there yet. Rumor is that the county will plow the road past my driveway this week. Then i still have a mile thru some timber and steep terrain on a private road. I will try to take an atv in first but i dont think i will be able to cross the creek. Ill be there in the next couple of weeks.

Another weather report - with pretty pictures. i hiked into the cabin this week, at least another week before i can drive in. One 4' drift might be an issue even then. Old dudes love the weather.
