Well fall has come and gone and I am in the gloomy process of winterizing things. Today the high will be 40 with lows in low 20's on both ends. Soon it will be frosty in the basement so I have to drain and clean the cistern tank. Picture ladders, bungee cords, vacuum cleaners, hoses, duct tape and beer cans.
I pump anti freeze tru everything after learning the hard way that you just cant blow it out and get everything. Thats a pretty easy job that me and the dogs did last weekend. But, I have been battling with a squirrel who decided to take up residence there. He came up the drain line (since covered with wire) and drags buckets of leaves and organic crap in. I chase him around, clean up, set traps, and we repeat a few days later. Lately he started getting more aggressive with his hoarding and has included nuts, bolts, spray paint cans, my mouse traps, and even a hammerto his collection. Bastard.
While I was filling things with anti freeze, the german shepherd Gus insisted that I move some boards so he could chase the mouse. I chit myself when I picked the board up because what appeared to be a kangaroo jumped out. And the chit hit the fan.Me and Gus had us a rodeo.
And we proudly present the biggest packrat in Colorado.

Yes, Gus is enthusiastic about each and every day. He needs something to do and I need someone to boss around so we make a good team.
We worked to make sure he was gentle around kids and kittens and such. But he loves it when I start hollerin for him to "get em!". Like those dogs on cops when they get to drag someone out from under a trailer.

I told the story on this board before of running into one of those guys eye to eye about 20 feet apart, when I was dove hunting as a teenager. The big guy could not wait to turn around and run off. Humans are such smelly creatures. It was exhilarating to me.I really do think twice before I go outside at night up there.

This particular picture is off of a trail camera but we have seen several in person while up there. Scary part is I know I have been seen a hell of a lot more than I have seen them. My heart skips a beat every time I see one.
Down in Az near my hometown they have one of those Africa wildlife places. Once when we were quail hunting a mile or so away a male lion went off roaring and bellering and the sound was absolutely terrifying. I want to hear it in person in Africa someday.
This BIG guy was breeding a female all day one day about 125 yards off the deck (I play with a rangefinder sometimes). They made a hell of a racket. The neighbors came by to watch and everything. Sorry about the crappy cell phone pic.
