I'm with Curt, seems to me all we did was make a martyr out of him. The bigger we make the prize the more glory he gets from the rest of the cave men. There's a thousand of them just waiting to take his place and the highest honor he'll get will be us saying his name.

Nothing to be concerned about a mere austere Islamic scholar according to the inimitable WaPo.

This from this morning's Daily Briefing in the NYT:

ISIS leader was betrayed by one of his own

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State, spent his last months hiding in a part of northern Syria dominated by rival jihadist groups. And he was paying one of those groups protection money — at least $67,000, receipts show.

The rival group kept his secret, but Mr. al-Baghdadi was betrayed by one of the few people he trusted, two American officials said, leading to his death in a Special Forces raid.

Background: The informer’s identity remains a secret. But one individual with knowledge of the events described him as “a very, very close, trusted confidant” of the ISIS leader.

The details: Six other people were killed in the compound, the Pentagon said, in addition to Mr. al-Baghdadi and the children he took with him when he detonated a suicide vest. American forces recovered laptops, cellphones and thumb drives that could provide a window into the organization.

Maybe there was more than one. $50 million bounty is quite attractive.

Regarding the obit reported to be in the WP---Joe has that one right---there was a long condemning OPED in the WSJ about that. You have to wonder where someones head was who wrote that---and it made it into the paper.

The article in the WSJ stated that it immediately came under criticism and was taken down quickly.

I did not see any similar insult in the NYT.

I think Homeland Security should pay them a visit to determine the source of the obit and then have a "chat" with the source.

It now appears that one of the cowardly terrorist's wives along with other family members have been captured by the Turks...
Islamic State spokesman Abu Hassan al-Muhajir, considered a potential successor to Baghdadi, was himself killed in northwestern Syria in a separate attack by U.S. forces, a senior State Department official confirmed to Fox News last week.

I doubt the Turks have a huge number of liberal lawyers just waiting to raise hell about a little waterboarding..
