    Watching that shot pass by his head causes me to better appreciate some of the risk in sports - even a "non-contact" sport like golf.

    Having been a golfer for too many decades, I have learned the truth of the statement, “A golf ball’s gonna do what a golf ball’s gotta do, and we have very little control over it.” That understanding makes the game much more enjoyable and less frustrating.

    I don't play golf, but I have always thought it would be fun to convert a golf course into a shooting range where targets (clays) fly out without warning to shoot. Target locations would be hidden and frequently moved to keep the game interesting.

    It could be similar to sporting clays, but we could call it "Sporting Combat"...Play it with burst-fire AR-15's for instance...To reduce accidental damage to property or people, use plastic projectiles in the ammo...Made from recycled water bottles we could call them Beto Bullets...

    I'm assuming once you have a drink you are not allowed back in the range.... Golf is a drinking sport. Beer = Aiming Oil.

    Not for me!

    I did a field test on the effects of alcohol--simply because I did not believe it was as extreme as claimed. As most know I am a fanatic about accuracy with a rifle---my still hoped for is to put 5 shots through one hole at 100 yards. I've been close but no cigar--and as I get older it seems to be even more of a challenge.

    Anyway---back to the test. I took a bourbon bottle down to my shooting bench and rifle range. I shot one five round group to start. I then had a drink of bourbon, waited 15 minutes and fired another 5 shot group---the effect was undeniable, despite the fact that I felt nothing from the alcohol. To verify what I observed, I took another round, waited 15 minutes and shot another group---and I had no need to continue--at least from a scientific point of view . My youngest (adult) son was with me---it provided a good lesson for him as well.

    I remind myself of that experience anytime we are out and I am tempted to have a second drink.
