Pretty good rant! I wonder what his blood pressure was while writing that?

It can't include tariffs Dave's post in one of these threads blames Trump for the spread of the viruses because he won't drop the tariffs,
You will have to show me where I did that---somehow I missed that. There is enough justified criticism of trump without making stuff up.

As for Joe's article---there are a few shreds of truth in that garbage pile, darn shame it is hard to identify.

Any article “with a few shreds of truth in it” is a great leap beyond most media and worth a read.

Not enough is being mentioned about the origins of the Wuhan Flu and the Chinese Communists’ response. The known nexus point is the Wuhan Fish & Wildlife Market, which sells all manner of live creatures and pestilence. They are kept in and sold out of tiny cages stacked on top of each other doing just what you wish to forget to the hapless creatures under them. From where do they all come? Damn near everywhere including documented supply from the Wuhan level 4 Bio Lab right up the road, which is China’s sole known laboratory charged with collecting and researching the most dangerous infectious materials known. It is owned by China’s military.

The lab has a known history of poorly paid lab techs selling experimentally infected test animals out the back door “after” the experiments end. One tech was documented to have profited over $1 million in the trade, much of which went through the local Wuhan market where this disease was traced. All this has been well-known to Chin-C authorities even when other pandemics incubated and transpired out of China as this one has done.

To compound the malfeasance of Chi/Com authorities, in this incidence the first reports of Covid-19 were covered up thereby losing critical time, when the 8 whistle-blowers were buried in the Chinese Gulag never to be seen again. The first, an ophthalmologist, reportedly died of the disease at age 33, if you believe that.

The Chi/Coms have a lot for which to answer if someone would only ask the right questions.

Joe, I realize you aren't my paralegal, but are those links in this thread? I would like to read them if you can point me to them. I watched the little movie about the live animal markets. I didn't find it as disturbing as some of you, but then I have been to a dairy and a feedlot. LOL

My references are to various articles I have read and comments on television I have watched. The Chinese have been busy covering and obscuring their tracks, but they are still around. Keep your eyes open, I am sure it will keep coming out.

One such article from a quick search —

Just a comment on your comparison Curt. I was born and raised on a large dairy farm which also included sheep, hogs, chickens, and turkeys---I say that only to qualify myself as having some experience in housing animals. Despite that background, there was nothing in that, which made what I saw in Asian (mostly but not exclusively Chinese) markets any less disturbing. While I also consider many of the western US feed lots disgusting, they aren't close to some of the caged conditions you can find in these street markets. It is not uncommon to see examples of cannibalism in those cages.

Close juxtaposition of China’s premier virology lab to the epicenter of the Covid-19 outbreak does not prove a connection - the cum hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy - but it does not disprove it either. Any connection remains a suspicion at this time. What we do know with little question is that Chinese authorities right to the top knew as early as November that a novel Coronavirus had been found in its midst in Wuhan infecting people and by December that it was transmitable between humans. Instead of attacking it with well-known methodology and making its emergence known to the world’s medical field, they chose to conceal it and allow its citizenry and others to disperse widely. The ultimate widespread dissemination of a new dread disease is at their doorstep. The possible political ramifications of the Chi/Com’s perfidious actions to the rest of the world is discussed below at some length —

    Least you forget to mention:

Li Wenliang died after contracting the virus while treating patients in Wuhan.

Last December he sent a message to fellow medics warning of a virus he thought looked like Sars - another deadly coronavirus.

But he was told by police to "stop making false comments" and was investigated for "spreading rumours".

Understood. I was sorta acknowledging that they mighta downplayed the reality of the situation. The movie was too polite.

I have never been to one of those markets. I don't even go in pet stores anymore.

If he is the same doctor, he was an ophthalmologist, and was subsequently arrested for harming the state with his disclosures and never heard from again except a notice by the Chinese government that he had “died from the disease.” Why we should believe that a 33 year-old would die from this disease, which rarely takes people that age, is up to the reader. More likely, he died of offending the state.

You are correct--and my primary motive to bring him into this is simply a glaring example of the control that the Chinese government goes to without hesitation.

On another note: I never thought I would see this happen---but it has. Attendance at a weekly Mass is about as basic as it gets in the Catholic Church--it is an obligation. The fact that we are now into Lent adds even more importance to this practice, which is often supplemented by the devout with attendance at other Lenten services ie Stations of the Cross et al. It is within that context, I was surprised to just get an email from our pastor. Mass is now not offered to the devout, it will be said daily (as required of all priests) in private, but there will be no public Masses offered until further notice.

Who knows how much is enough----or wants to find out

This situation is forcing us all to evaluate what is meant by and the extent of “basic human rights.” We all hope it is a giant overreach.

The move comes even as the Trump administration has resisted calls to provide broad tariff relief during the spreading coronavirus pandemic. Despite the reversals, many medical items remain under tariff.
