    Shopping report

I was 15 days post exposure today and I took advantage of a gorgeous spring day to do some much needed grocery shopping. My first stop was the butcher shop. They might have had 1/3 the normal amount and selections in the cases. I wanted a chuck roast---no luck, their own hot dogs---no luck, souse---no luck

Next was the grocery store. For the most part I only do the outside aisles, so I started in the fruit and produce department----no shortage of fresh selections at all. They did have the salad bar closed and and the deli is not its normal, but there was no problem at all with fresh things. Then I turned right and started going through the sea food and meat---sea food looked normal, I didn't look too closely to meats--but the internal aisles were various levels of empty, some entirely empty. When I got to the dairy aisle things seemed close to normal there and I got two dozen eggs and some cheese. I also picked up a loaf of rye bread and that appeared normal.

Check out was slow because of a limited number of cashiers. The had marked the floor at 6 foot intervals, and people were complying with that. At the check out I found I had violated an anti hording rule---I could only have one dozen eggs!

What is causing people to horde is beyond me----the woman in front of me seemed intent on buying every package of hamburger and chicken they had---I hope she has a big freezer!

    Here ya go —

A woman in a grocery store in Hanover, Pa. intentionally walked through the story coughing on the display cases causing the store to dispose of $35,000 worth of groceries without knowing whether she was infected or not —

Joe, IV posted that in it's own thread yesterday.

I have a question that keeps rolling over in my mind without answers. The question: where did all this hording originate? What is causing it? When I look at the things being horded it becomes even more bizarre---they range from toilet paper to guns and ammo. Can anyone give me some insights into the origin of this apparent fear? There has to be a common thread in all of this----these individuals did not all come to the same conclusion at the same time that they need to go out and buy all the toilet paper they can find!

I understand hoarding, as I hoard guns, ammo, building materials, etc. I still vaguely remember the arab oil embargo, and I know that left a mark for some people in the generation before mine. The company I worked for installed 4 giant fuel storage tanks and a world class parts room because it was hard to run a construction company without.

I just dont understand why they hoard what they hoard. Toilet paper? Hand sanitizer? That said, with about 10,000 rounds of 22 lr, who am I to judge?

I guess in that vain the same could be said of my ammo store---but I regard that as need not hording

In a serious note, I, and I expect you, don't have those stores out of some unexplained or unfounded fear.

Our local Aldi is only place I’ve been.. toilet paper, paper towels and water, only one package per.. no large peanut butter.. no 1/2 gallon ice cream but had pizza... only three dozen eggs per.. no flour..

10,000 rounds... with a bolt action 22 rifle.. the math is beyond me...

Or (attempt at humor, part 2).. 10,000 rounds.. that’s what the guns in the movies hold.. (two magazines for movie gun)

I have 2 boys and a "couple" of semi-autos too. When they looked at me with tears in their eyes and asked "daddy, why are we out of 22's?", I vowed never again.

That should go well with your glucose control regime

More to yesterday's observations. All told I drove probably 40 miles, almost exclusively on secondary roads (including one covered bridge) and there was less traffic than I would normally expect---of cars and trucks. There was noticeably more "traffic" of bicycles and walkers. Most of the cyclists were obviously frequent riders--based on their dress. The walkers---not so much. Most just seemed to be out on a beautiful day taking advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the sun.

The hoarding, I believe , was caused by the media. After the first idiot bought 50 rolls of TP [ and 30 boxes of X Lax ] and the media made a BIG deal over it,
the brain dead figured they should also else they would never be able to get any.

Forget the FACT that yesterday there was meat and TP and under normal buying there would be tomorrow. As far as ammo goes about 250 rds of 44 and if that isn't enough I'll just move in with someone that has more. [ anyone need two house guests ? mostly house broken and only require maid service for all things. ]

I agree - the media caused it.
