Mike, you sound like a history book.. when we was yoots DC was governed by an appointed Commissioner.. then an appointed Mayor.. and now an elected Mayor..

Phone service.. we used to have local seven digit dialing anywhere inside the beltway, across state lines.. was a nightmare for C&P Telephone (Bell Company).. all Virginia (DC calling) exchanges could not be reused in Maryland .. DC exchanges couldn’t be reused in Maryland or Virginia.. when area codes began so split the duplication was only between 703-301-202.. all because congressmen lived out in MD & VA burbs and wanted to be able to call work/home..

16th street.. Black Lives Matter Plaza now ( i wonder what the office buildings along that section of street think.. sorry, just mumbling to myself (a high rent business district)) She is just reacting to a bully.. i believe that there is an effort to try and get the President to get upset and embarrass himself.. I think the street painting is her doing her part..

She is a quiet.. kinda nerd.. librarian acting person.. this is all quiet amusing to the locals..

She named a street for an organization that funnels 100% and tens of millions of dollars to one party. Beyond that, the founders of BLM are outspoken Marxists and one of their stated primary principals is destruction of capitalism. You wonder why their targets are not willing to gift them 2 senators? Really?

I have no skin in the game---just following along.

But I do have one observation--or question---if the defense of not allowing DC state hood status is based on not allowing them to have two Senators---then by that reason neither Wyoming or RI should have none either---just sayin

At what level of population would you think a state could qualify for a place in the Senate. Following that logic---and ignoring totally the intent of the framers of our constitution ---at the point you can just eliminate the Senate and go with the house of "Representatives".

It seems to me everything I have heard advanced on the side of no---is based on partisan politics--pure and simple---am I understanding that correctly?

No what it really is about is assuring there will never be another Republican President or Senate Majority. Same reason the left abhors the Electorial College. You have to start from an understanding that these folks pushing these issues have no respect for the Constitution.

No, Dave that is not at all correct from my position. Politics don't enter into my thoughts other than I think DC should be apolitical or neutral outside of the Congress and the White House (and other government facilities). If that makes no sense, think of it as a DMZ free of all the partisan BS that takes place in government's houses. It should belong to all of the Citizens of the U.S. and be a place they can be proud of instead of the crap hole it has become under local governance.

I think statehood is much bigger than a city, I don't care what the population might be. Besides, if we start granting statehood to cities, they will all be clambering to secede from the states to become a city state. I don't think the Founders had that in mind.

Actually I think the "founders" were try to get the areas around to have the same rights as the rest of the citizens. Just never got it done.

I believe they did it back then to keep it from having (government buildings) to be protected by a "state".

Been revamped a number of times until it now the District of Columbia. Think there was 3 or 4 separate areas before that.
