    Statehood for DC?

    Are they kidding me? Really?

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi joined with other Democrat leaders Thursday in pushing for D.C. statehood ahead of a Friday vote in the House, saying making the city the country's 51st state would right a “grave injustice.”
“Tomorrow we will right this grave injustice which is an affront to our democracy,” Pelosi said at a news conference.

We are 16 miles from The District.. our local TV and Radio is all DC.

It’s about taxation without representation.. DC has a larger population then several state yet has no representation in Congress.

Not about red or blue.. about representation..

And yes they pay local income, sales and real estate tax and all of the federal taxes as the rest of the country.

Any law that the city council passes can be overturned by congress..

The voters of the city elected Marion Berry mayor repeatedly as their revered representative even after they could no longer ignore his infamously apparent crack cocaine addiction and conviction and release from prison. They have even financed with partial public money a statue to this colossal embarrassment because he is a “legend!” Can Bill Cosby’s statue be far behind?

Ahhh....when you know nothing else, sometimes all you have to do is find out if there is money involved.

Btw, has anyone noticed the news from the current smallest state? I never knew that the correct name for that state is “State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations.” Under thrall of the present cancel culture, the inclusion of the word “plantation,” despite its actual dictionary meaning or attribution to the original founder, Roger Willams, is taboo, triggering and must be erased, therefore the current governor has assumed power and decreed by executive fiat that the word be stricken from all official seals and the like. Some are questioning the authority to do so. They won’t have much trouble getting the legislature to clear this egregious sin from the past. Feeling must be assuaged.

My o my...Imagine the shame and degradation all the non-those-of-color, and even the partially non-those-of-color Rhode Islanders must be feeling right now...I'm sure they are all emptying their pockets and purses in preparation for the impending demand for reparations...They must be just plumb red-faced...No scratch that as it would insult the indigenous native Americans from whom the state was ruthlessly stolen and plundered in the first place......Ben

The District of Columbia was designed by the founders to be outside the political turmoil. Assigning the city senators and representatives would put it in the middle of the fray even more directly than it is now. It is not as if the city has been deprived of support and funds by evil suppressors. It is the center of the richest area of the world depending on how you measure it.

It’s in the political turmoil now..

The days of Marion Barry are long gone.. there are new crazy antics .. latest involves a Caucasian councilman or now ex-councilman.. the new Mayor (Bowser) is smart, educated and well mannered.

The constitution was designed to be amended.. woman can now vote.. slavery is gone.. liquor is gone, whoops! It’s back.. we have freedom of speech.. you may own a firearm.. all amendments.. maybe it’s time for a change for DC? Doesn’t have to be statehood, someone must have an idea..(give their member of Congress a vote maybe?

BTW.. DC now has electoral votes..

I think DC should remain a "neutral zone" for government to do its business. I don't think there should be the autonomy it has now, with the mayor telling the president what she will allow. In my opinion, DC belongs to the federal government and the local government should be disbanded with the city turned over to a federal agency for operations. Perhaps Homeland Security, or maybe even the military could run it as a federal enclave. As for the locals complaints about no representation, no one forces them to live there. Maybe they'd like it better in New Jersey.
