I am not trying to malign Texas, rather to argue that Texas (along with many other states) has a very real problem, one being denied by our friend Joe, who has used his deflection talents to avoid the very real issue---not unlike trump.
Sadly, more people are getting sick because they and their polarized political "leaders" are treating this as a partisan issue rather than a public health issue. The bad news is that denial isn't keeping anyone healthy.

Around here its the kids that are the problem. They don't follow the rules and spread at will....

Dave, Is over 95000 cases and almost 7000 deaths a good job managing the virus? That would be your state. Don't recall anybody coming on here bashing the hell out of you guys when you were in the middle of such a desperate situation. For the record Pennsylvania added almost a thousand cases yesterday and your state has been dealing with this much longer than Texas. This virus is a bad deal we all need to quit pointing fingers and try to find a way forward. I have duly noted your little snotty remarks all through this thing, referring to Trump supporters as cultists and referring to my state as Darwin Award winners, yet you whine like a baby when someone uses the term "coastal elite". You earned it.

The pandemic has been horribly mishandled from the highest politician in the land to to smallest city's mayors. We knew this was coming and did nothing to prepare for it other than to deny it would be a problem. The reason it has been so botched is simple - partisan politics. The supposed "leaders" are more concerned with their party politics and re-elections than they are about the health of their constituents. Vote 'em all out!
The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible - Arthur C. Clarke
partisan politics is pretty much the cause of most of our countries issues...
I am having trouble understanding your message here, Dave. Have you concluded that the spread of the WuFlu in the US, especially in the last couple of months was somehow done in a partisan manner, that masks/distancing is somehow partisan or that contraction of the disease has a partisan effect rate?
Actually, I think one very partisan effect has been readily established — a grossly disproportionate death rate in nursing homes in the states of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan & California (cancelled after 10 days) in which each Democrat governor executed executive orders with large fines requiring nursing homes to admit diagnosed carriers of the disease into their sealed facilities full of particularly susceptible residents.

You have summed that up perfectly
I seldom read Op Eds in the NYT--but I made an exception today and I invite all to take a few minutes to lay down your partisanship and read this one--- it is hard to argue with. I think the saddest thing is, when this is all behind us we will have learned nothing about how we got here or what we need to do to correct it.
Just this excerpt from the piece is demonstrated clearly in this thread---and that is a damn shame.
I still remain speechless (well almost) every time I hear some idiot pontificate about their "RIGHT" to decide to wear a mask in public---were in the hell does it say they have the right to endanger other's health? The nation’s faltering attempt to contain the Covid-19 pandemic has revealed once again the role of political partisanship in every aspect of American society.
Academic studies show that Republicans were far less willing to adopt safety procedures and were far more skeptical of scientific warnings than their Democratic counterparts.
In “Partisan Pandemic: How Partisanship and Public Health Concerns Affect Individuals’ Social Distancing During Covid-19,” published on June 28, Joshua Clinton, of Vanderbilt University, and three colleagues concluded that
Rampant partisanship in the United States may be the largest obstacle to the social distancing most experts see as critical to limiting the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The four political scientists continue:
All else equal, the relative importance of partisanship for the increasing (un) willingness of Republicans to engage in social distancing highlights the challenge that politics poses for public health.
Along similar lines, Christos Makridis of the MIT Sloan School of Management and Jonathan Rothwell, principal economist at Gallup and a Brookings senior scholar, reach a devastating conclusion in their June 30 paper, “The Real Cost of Political Polarization: Evidence from the Covid-19 Pandemic.”
Based on data collected by Gallup on 45,000 individuals between March and June, the authors conclude
that fear, economic expectations, workplace visits, social-distancing, and mask-wearing are all driven by party identification to a much greater extent than local public-health conditions, state economic conditions, or state public health policies.

If stupid and evil right-wing nuts are the anti-social idiots refusing to wear masks and social distance, wouldn’t it follow that they would in turn be disproportionately those who have contracted the disease? Is there any data showing that? Damn, you would think all the KKK meetings alone would be infection parties.
