My favorite Rolex story is one I may have written here before, but at the risk of repetition, I’ll repeat anyway.

I was playing golf with my buddy one nice fall day, and he was wearing a gold Rolex. He took it off and put it in his bag on the golf cart we were riding...or at least he thought he did. I’m betting he placed it on the roof or elsewhere as we were gearing up. We played 18 holes and drove to our cars to unload. When he searched for his watch, it was nowhere to be found. Uh-oh, what were the chances we could find the watch or that someone would turn it in? Fortunately, the course was very sparsely played that day. So, we took the cart back to the first hole and started going where we remembered being before. The search would be complicated because there were fall leaves blown all over the fairways and course.

The short version is that we nearly ran over the watch sitting in the middle of the first hole completely unscathed sitting amongst the leaves. I think I remember him telling me, that he had paid something like $18k for the watch.

The NASA engraving is only on the moon watch because the Speedy Pro is the one worn by the Apollo 11 crew, and issued to every other astronaut since...Omega still puts the engraving on new Speedy Pros...I'm actually considering selling my own, and just wearing something cheaper...Sorry to hijack your thread, Dave, it wasn't intentional...I always wanted a Rolex, but could never afford one...I'll settle for my 53 year old cheapy for now......Ben

I didn't notice any hijacking Ben---it's all been good from my POV

From Wingate (thank you) I found this, my model is the one on the left:
I think that price is probably pretty close. I bought my two-tone Submariner from them. While I trust their sales dept. to be pretty close on pricing, I hear mixed reviews about their service, ie not using genuine parts, some say they do, some say they don't. Just fyi.

Actually, you are spot on. Hand signals are used a lot to communicate in free fall. One of them is the 'pull my finger'. If someone points at you with one finger you need to deploy your main NOW. You have an issue they can see that you can't.

"Pull my finger" means something totally different in these parts. It usually ends with my wife mad at me....

I finally got around to calling the Rolex Repair Center in Manhattan. They gave me options on getting the watch to them:

    1. They will send me a mailing kit to send the watch to them.
    2. I can take it to one of a few "local" dealers, who in turn ship it to the repair center.
    3. I can wait until I am back to Manhattan and then call them to make an appointment to come into the store--currently there are no walk-ins allowed.

Once they have the watch there, they will prepare an estimate of the repair costs, for a fee of $260.00.

Not sure which way I will go---I want to talk to at least one of the local dealers before I decide.

I did get an, oh wow, out of the person I spoke to when I gave her the details.
