But of all the pistols that I own I do not own one that has a red dot optical. I think I'm way past time to own one but none of mine are compatible. Oh dear, I guess that means I've got to buy one LOL. The question I have for someone that might know is whether I would be better off buying one with the optic already there or buying my own optic?

I have three firearms equipped with red dots. Only one is a pistol, the Springfield Armory Hellcat. It comes optics ready, or traditional. You can get it with preinstalled optics, or purchase the sight separately and add your own.

I bought the Hellcat when it first came out and only one optic was available, the Shield RMSc. I bought it from Amazon and installed it myself. It is only two screws and you are good to go. The sight will co-index with the iron sights so you essentially have two sights at once and if the battery goes dead you can still use the iron sights. I have been extremely pleased with my Hellcat.

Today, there are at least three different red dot sights for the Hellcat.

The red dot takes some getting used to. You don't aim the same as iron sights. With the red dot, you focus solely on the target and the dot appears to be on the target, not the weapon. If you try to focus on the red dot inside the sight your aim point will be off. Until you get used to it, you have to make a conscious effort to ignore the sight and focus only on the target where the red dot will appear like magic. Hope this helps.

Oh! I almost forgot. Using the red dot really helps with old eyes that don't focus on the iron sights and the target.

I've been looking at the Springfield hellcat with the hex wasp optic. I'm also looking at the sig Sauer p365 XL with the Romeo zero. I'm heading up to my place up in pigeon forge next week and I think I'm going to go by buds gun shop and range and shoot both of those and see what I think. I know you're a fan of the hellcat and I have a p365 but not the XL. I'm really looking forward to using a red dot optical.

I've tried them in the past and just can't get used to them...My old running buddy tells me I need to at least try this one on my newly acquired Marlin .45...But I'm stubborn and I like iron sights, so I'll first see how I like the sights I put on yesterday...With this gun it's a snap to change to something else...

It's not that I can afford it, but I already had it...Bought several years back and stashed...If I had to shoot it, I couldn't afford to replace it at today's prices...

My backups are swords/knives I keep in every room that I consider a fall-back room. That way, if an attacker gets past my threshold, I'll still have resources to fight them with. Fortunately, there are several companies that make plastic/resin swords/knives Wifey and I can utilize.
